Removals in Slough, booked off a deadline

Nearly every move in this town is set by a date somebody else chose — a completion, a check-out, a lease, a posting. So we start from the deadline and work backwards, rather than from a list of services and hope.

Free survey, in person or by video. Nothing on this site quotes a figure before one.

What we move

Sorted by who is doing the moving

A house move and a tenancy clearance use the same van and almost nothing else in common. Grouping by customer rather than by service name means you can find your own situation instead of guessing which product you are supposed to buy.

Households

Owner-occupiers moving within the SL postcodes or out of them.

J1

House removals

A whole house, SL1 to SL3

A full household move, surveyed room by room. Most Slough houses are interwar semis or postwar estates with a drive, which makes loading straightforward and puts the whole job on the inventory rather than on access.

J2

Man and van

Part-loads and single pieces

Two crew and a van for a room, a single heavy item, or a part-load that has to clear by a certain day. The most-booked job in the SL postcodes and the one most often booked at short notice.

Renting

Tenancies, rooms and the gaps between them — deadline-driven work.

J3

Tenancy and room moves

Deadlines set by an agreement

Slough rents more than it buys, and a tenancy end date does not negotiate. This is the job planned backwards from a check-out: clear, clean run, and nothing left behind to argue about.

J4

Storage

Held between two addresses

Goods collected, listed and held while you are between places. Common here because tenancy ends and new starts rarely meet, and because relocations frequently arrive before the housing does.

Business

Trading Estate units, Bath Road offices, stock and records.

J5

Office and trading estate moves

Units, offices, stock

Moves on and around the Slough Trading Estate and the office blocks along Bath Road: unit to unit, floor to floor, scheduled around a lease and a loading bay rather than around a household.

Relocating

Postings in and out, usually with a date set by somebody else.

J6

Relocation and airport moves

Arriving, leaving, or passing through

Slough sits next to Heathrow and a great deal of what moves here is somebody starting or ending a posting. Part-loads, staged deliveries, and goods held until the accommodation is confirmed.

On more than one row, or not sure which? Describe it in your own words on the quote form. Working out which job it is counts as our side of it.

The sheet

Four kinds of job, four different plans

A removals firm that treats a tenancy check-out like a house completion will let somebody down, because only one of those dates can be argued with. These are the four rows we actually work from, and what each one needs settled before the van is booked.

HH A household moving house Set by a completion date, and liable to move Every door opened at survey — loft, garage, shed. The garage is what changes the figure.
TN A tenant at the end of an agreement Fixed by the agreement, and it does not move The check-out date and time, and whether the new place is available the same day.
BZ A business on or near the estate Set by a lease and a landlord The building rules: access hours, goods lift, loading bay, and who signs it off.
RL Someone starting or ending a posting Set by an employer, often at short notice Whether the accommodation is confirmed. If it is not, the goods get held rather than guessed at.

If you are on more than one row at once — a tenant buying a first house, a business owner moving both home and stock — say so. That combination is common here and it is planned as one job, not two.

Field notes

Four things about Slough that change the job

Not a tourist description of the town. These are the four facts of local geography that actually turn up in a quote — and the reason a firm from thirty miles away tends to underprice work here.

  1. 01

    The M4, junctions 5 and 6

Slough is unusually well connected for a removals job — the motorway is minutes from most of the town. It is why long-distance work out of here is straightforward, and why the traffic on the A4 at either end of the day is the part worth planning around.

  2. 02

    Heathrow, over the boundary

The airport shapes the local moving market more than anything else: postings starting, postings ending, and accommodation confirmed late. It is the reason so much Slough work needs goods held rather than delivered straight.

  3. 03

    The Elizabeth line

Through Slough and Langley, and it changed who buys and rents here. What it did not change is the width of the roads around either station, which still decide where a vehicle can stand.

  4. 04

    The Trading Estate

A working industrial estate with its own access rules and its own rhythm. Commercial moves there are planned around the site and the lease, and they are usually the most predictable jobs we run.

The practical upshot: tell us the street and the building, not just the postcode. Areas we cover sets out what differs between Cippenham, Chalvey, Langley and the town centre.

Out of the country

Removals from Slough to Europe

Being ten minutes from the M4 makes European work out of Slough unusually clean: the load is on the motorway almost immediately and at the tunnel in a single run. The paperwork is the slow part, and that is the part we handle.

We collect across Berkshire, west London and the M4 and M25 corridors, and take loads from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Bristol when a European run is already booked. How the international side works.

Asked most often

Questions from the SL postcodes

  1. 01

How quickly can you move me in Slough?

Sooner than most people expect midweek, and least easily on a Friday or at the end of a month — that is when tenancies and completions cluster. Tell us the deadline when you enquire and we will tell you honestly what we have rather than taking the booking and working it out afterwards.

  2. 02

Do you do small jobs, or only whole houses?

Both, and small jobs are the bulk of the work in the SL postcodes. A room out of a shared house in Chalvey, a single wardrobe, a part-load clearing before a check-out — those are ordinary bookings here, not favours.

  3. 03

Can you work around a tenancy check-out?

That is precisely how we plan rental jobs. The check-out time is fixed and everything else bends around it, so we work backwards from it: what time we arrive, what order things load, and whether anything needs holding because the new place is not available the same day.

  4. 04

Do you move businesses on the Trading Estate?

Yes — unit to unit, office floors along Bath Road, and stock or records during a refit. Commercial work is scheduled around the lease and the site rules rather than around a household, and the building survey comes first.

  5. 05

My relocation date is confirmed but my housing is not. What then?

Very common here, given the airport. We collect on the date that is real, list and hold the goods, and deliver once the accommodation is confirmed. It is far cheaper than paying for a van to sit or for two separate moves.

More on the questions page — parking, lift bookings, deposits, and what happens when a relocation date arrives before the housing does.

Tell us the deadline

Send the two addresses, roughly what is moving and the date you cannot miss. We read it, ask what the form could not, and come back with a written quote.
